Blues are reportedly set for a battle as they look to keep hold of coach Ashley Cole ahead of next season. The former Chelsea full-back is reportedly attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs, with a possible move into management on the cards.
According to The Mirror, Birmingham are working to keep hold of Cole, but there is already interest from more than one second tier club. Cole is yet to experience management, and he may be a risky appointment, but he has been working towards a bigger role in a coaching capacity with Blues.
Norwood decision
Elsewhere, Sheffield United, who are headed for the Championship next season, will release experienced midfielder Oli Norwood this summer, according to The Star. Norwood has been with the Blades since 2019, but he will not be offered a new deal.
At 33 years of age, Norwood is likely to still be an attractive option for a Championship club looking for an experienced player on a relatively short-term deal. As for the Blades - they are expected to have a big turnover of players this summer ahead of their Championship return, with Chris Wilder making it clear that he wants to put his own spin on the squad he inherated following the sacking of Paul Heckingbottom earlier this season.
