Birmingham City take on their penultimate Championship away fixture of the season on Tuesday evening as they head to Millwall in London. Without a victory in three games, John Eustace and his men will be eager to get back to winning ways, though it could be tricky to do so considering Millwall’s high levels of motivation.
In fifth position and three points clear of seventh, the Lions are near the top of a pack charging for play-off qualification. It’s very much in their hands following a 2-0 win over Preston North End at the weekend, but more victories are needed to make sure they finish in the top six. Blues, meanwhile, don’t have a great deal to play for.
Having hit the 50-point mark a week or so ago with a draw against Stoke City, it’s safe to say Birmingham should avoid the drop to League One. Although not mathematically there just yet, the eight-point gap - as well as the number of teams worse off - means Eustace’s men are very likely to feature in the Championship next campaign.
That doesn’t mean Blues will completely give up on the rest of this season, however, with the ambition still there to round it off on a high. The target may have been exceeded but it can be bettered still yet. The likes of Stoke, Hull City and Bristol City are well within reach still, so a decent finishing position could still be on the cards.
Eustace is expected to rotate his team somewhat having played just a few days ago and there will likely be one enforced change after George Hall went off injured in the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland. With that in mind, here is our predicted Blues starting XI for the Millwall game, including a brave inclusion in defence.
