Eustace was relieved of his duties on Monday morning, and it is expected that Wayne Rooney will be announced as Blues boss later this week.

Birmingham are on the hunt for a manager that will play ‘no-fear’ football, and Rooney’s recent exit from DC United, as well as the long outstanding reported interest, makes hm the most likely candidate.

Rooney’s potential appointment however, is likely to have an affect on their business in January, and already things are coming into question.

Birmingham City held an interest in an unnamed Cheltenham Town player, it has been reported by GloucestershireLive.

In a post published on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Cheltenham Town journalist Jon Palmer said: “Birmingham City have been closely tracking and regularly watching a Cheltenham Town player.

“Wonder if the change of manager will impact that at all…”

Cheltenham Town themselves have had a change of manager which has affected both current and former Blues players.

Full-back Josh Williams was loaned out to the Robins on Deadline Day, and is there until January 2024. The 20-year-old was signed by former Blues midfielder Wade Elliott, but he was sacked and later replaced by Darell Clarke.

Williams signed a new three-year deal at Birmingham before going to Whaddon Road, and with his deal only running until January, the new Birmingham boss may want a closer look at the Blues youngster.

He has so far made five appearances for Cheltenham, and made his first appearance under his new boss Clarke on Saturday, coming on as a substitute for 29 minutes.

Cheltenham are currently bottom of League One, and have picked up just two points from a possible 36. The Robins only scored their first league goal of the season last Saturday after drawing 1-1 with Derby County.
