Starting online on Saturday 16th October, a free-to-enter tournament running under the name of ‘Battle of the Blues’ will go live and those that prove their worth will be in with the chance of winning cash prizes, signed merchandise and much more.

Beginning with 256 players on the Saturday, competitors will battle it out until eight remain by close of play on Sunday.

Those eight will will be rewarded by receiving an invitation to an in-person quarter-finals event which will take place at the home of the Blues, St Andrew’s Stadium on Sunday 31st October.

The eventual winner will land £1,000 in cash with the runner-up and third place player taking home £500 & £250 respectively.

There are a couple of catches, though.

Players that enter will be required to play as Birmingham City for the whole tournament. No flip-flapping and abuse of power as PSG or anyone similar. It’s Tahith Chong or nobody for you.

The tournament will also only be available for those that own a PlayStation - more specifically, a PS4 edition of FIFA 22. PS5 players are eligible to play in the tournament as long as they use the PS4 edition of the game.

Fear not though, those of other consoles. This is just the beginning. The competition marks the start of a two-year partnership between BCFC & Ultimo GG with more tournaments planned on other systems in the near future. Also, did someone say a Birmingham City FC esports team?
