Scott Wright’s stoppage-time winner sparked absolute bedlam in the Tilton Road End as Birmingham celebrated a last-gasp three points claimed from the Latics on Saturday afternoon.

Hide AdSupporters behind the goal at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park went into a frenzy when Wright wheeled away in celebration, causing footage of the moment to go viral on social media. Many have been in awe of the scenes on display and expressed their admiration for Bluenoses, but others have deemed the reaction to be a little excessive.
This divide has been evident in the rather mixed response from a post on Birmingham’s X account in the immediate aftermath of the weekend’s game. You’d think that pure ecstasy prompted from a late winner would be commended by most, but that’s not been the reaction from some.
One user wrote: “That’s bog standard for most home ends after a last minute winner,” while another said: “You’d think they had won the league, they’ve only gone and spent £30 million and only deserved a draw.” Backing that up, a response read: “I’m sorry but this is League One and you’re scraping a 2-1 win to Wigan.”

Hide AdBirmingham fans understandably came in to knock back these comments. “That is a proper working class club who love the team, don’t knock it,” one supporter wrote to back his side. “The Tilton is different gravy,” another said. “Best away limbs, best home limbs, with Birmingham there’s a common theme,” one more user added.
Fans of rival clubs will undoubtedly gang up on Blues for much of the season. The money spent in the summer makes Davies’ side quite the target but, in most cases, the reaction comes from a place of jealousy. Surely, looking at the bigger picture, pure and undisputed joy created by football should be applauded, not disdained.
