Birmingham City are 14th in the league standings as the Sky Bet Championship sees a return after around four weeks without any competitive action. Blues were able to have a long rest after some serious fixture congestion before the FIFA World Cup got underway and now they have the opportunity to build on a really strong start to the season.
John Eustace’s side took a point away from Blackpool on Saturday in a 0-0 draw in the north west; a decent return after their momentum was broken by the time off. The vast majority of Bluenoses would have expected yet another season in and amongst a relegation battle, and although that is still possible, it seems as if it may be more of a fight for mid-table instead.
Having conceded just 20 goals in 22 matches so far, Blues have maintained the third best defensive record in the entire division. Many would argue Birmingham are fairly unfortunate to not be even higher up the table given how well they have performed on the most part. It is likely Eustace will dip into the transfer market a little for some reinforcements to build on what has already been a successful campaign.
Of course, with the current shenanigans surrounding the future of the club’s ownership, it may be tough to go out and spend big bucks on players, but a few free transfers and loan deals could open up bigger and better ambitions. As is the nature of new faces coming in, some might well have to depart. With that in mind, here are the 10 players we think are the likeliest to leave St Andrew’s in the January transfer window.

1. George Hall
Has been the subject of serious interest from Leeds United and, if a big enough bid comes in, the wonderkid could sadly depart. He does have 18 months left on his deal, though. | Getty Images

2. Jonathan Leko
Just five appearances made in the Championship this season and all of them have come off the bench. Either a permanent or loan deal out seems likely. | Getty Images

3. Przemyslaw Placheta
The Polish international, who is on loan from Norwich City, was a decent bench option before he injured his shin. Even when he is fit, Blues have too many loan players for him to play. Could head back. | Getty Images

4. Hannibal Mejbri
Although the player himself has expressed his desire to stay with Birmingham for the whole season, Manchester United have the option to recall Hannibal if they want. It’s unlikely, but they could. | Getty Images
