Aston Villa are set to sign Orsomarso SC defender Yeimar Mosquera, according to reports in Colombia and England.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra in a post shared on X on Tuesday night, said that Mosquera is 'close' to becoming an Aston Villa player. He revealed that the 19-year-old could be loaned out to Real Union Club, which is owned by Unai Emery, with his brother Igor the club president. This was then backed up by Jacob Tanswell, the Villa reporter for The Athletic, who said that Villa had been working on a deal, and that an approach had been made. Mosquera according to Tanswell is viewed as a player for the future.

Mosquera is the captain of the Colombia under-20s team, and plays his club football for Orsomarso SC, who play in the second tier of Colombian football. He made 20 appearances in all competitions last season, with his side finishing 15th out of 16 teams. This season, Orsomarso are currently sixth, and are 28 games in to their league campaign which runs from the start of February to the middle of December.

If Mosquera were to sign, then he wouldn't be the only Aston Villa players linked with a move to Real Union. Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that goalkeeper James Wright was in talks to join the Basque outfit.

Josh Feeney and Tommi O'Reilly spent time out there with the Basque outfit last season. Feeney has since returned to England and gone out on loan to Shrewsbury Town, but has a hamstring injury that will rule him out for the next couple of weeks.

Aston Villa have already made nine summer signings this summer, including the reported £50m signing of Amadou Onana from Everton, and the £37.5m arrival of Ian Maatsen, who joined from Chelsea. Other arrivals include Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene who returned after one season at Sheffield United and Hull City, as well as Ross Barkley who rejoined from Luton Town. Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joined in a deal from Juventus which saw Douglas Luiz head in the opposite direction.
