It’s well known that Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is a big fan of Ricky Gervais.

The former Liverpool skipper has said previously that The Office is his favourite programme and that he would even love to meet the comedian.

In fact, when Gerrard appeared on Gary Neville’s Sky Sports Overlap show in April, when asked what his favourite television show was, he said: “The Office. I love it, I’m still watching it now.

“I go back and watch it when I’m in a bad mood or when I need to take my mind off results - I go right to The Office, Brent to cheer me up.

“I’m a huge fan (of Ricky Gervais), would love to meet him if I ever got the opportunity.”

So it’s no surprise that Gerrard was delighted after receiving a message from Gervais himself on his 42nd birthday on Monday (30 May).

Gerrard posted Gervais’ birthday message to his Instagram page yesterday.

The Villa boss said: “Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Thought I would share my favourite one 🤣🤣 my hero.”

In classic David Brent style, Gervais said: “Ricky Gervais - Steven Gerrard.

“I like football, You like comedy, I like football, so... happy birthday.”
