Aston Villa receive transfer update as target ‘lands at airport’ ahead of medical

Aston Villa transfer target Marcus Thuram has been pictured landing at Milan Malpensa Airport ahead of an ‘agreed’ move to Champions League finalists Inter Milan.

Previously heavily linked with a switch to Villa Park, the Borussia Mönchengladbach striker is set to sign a five-year contract with Inter after turning down an array of other options.

In January, it was believed Villa stood a good chance of luring Thuram to the Premier League but the attraction of Champions League football takes the France international to Italy.

Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano reports the 25-year-old will now “undergo medical tests and sign” as a new Inter player. Paris Saint-Germain were also in the race but the decision is final.

With 13 goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances, as well as three goals and one assist in just two DFB-Pokal matches, Thuram was in scintillating form throughout the 2022/23 season.

Villa will have to look elsewhere for a new forward to add to the ranks – as Unai Emery already knows his next five transfer decisions.
