Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram is keen on leaving the club either in January for a cut-price fee, or in the summer on a free transfer. This comes as a real boost for the numerous teams looking at the possibility of signing the Frenchman, including Premier League sides Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Thuram, who is one of just six forwards at the World Cup with reigning champions France, is also subject to serious interest from European sides Bayern Munich and Inter Milan - so those in England trying to sign him will have a lot of competition.

The likes of Villa and Newcastle have been told exactly what they need to do to land Thuram, however, which may make things a little easier. “It’s a big opportunity for Thuram because I’m told he’s not going to extend his contract with Monchengladbach,” transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano told the House of Champions YouTube channel.

“He has a new agent; he decided to change in August, so the plan is pretty clear - he wants to change and to try new opportunities. He has the chance to leave in January or in the summer as a free agent. In the case of a January move €10 million is the price tag from Monchengladbach,” Romano said.

According to Romano, it would take a bid of just £8.6 million for Thuram to be lured away, making his acquisition a realistic one for all parties interested. At just 25 years of age, the price tag is more than realistic for a player with Champions League experience heading into his prime, and he could help either Villa or Newcastle achieve their own European goals.

With 10 goals and three assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, Thuram has been in fine form and is the second top scorer in the division, level with Niclas Fullkrug of Freiburg. Only RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, with 12, has netted on more occasions than the pair this term.

As Man Utd and Tottenham are also keen, however, Villa and Newcastle would have to move quickly to have any real chance of a deal. With Bayern and Inter, meanwhile, there is still no movement but there could be action closer to January. “It’s true that Bayern are tracking him, but at the moment there are no advanced negotiations with the player,” Romano continued.

“In Italy, it’s true that Inter are really appreciating him. I mentioned that Thuram was one of the priority targets for Inter before the injury, then he got the injury and so the deal collapsed between Inter and Monchengladbach, so they are still keeping an eye on Thuram.”

Other than the points mentioned, there are no more advanced updates on the future of Thuram, but we will bring you the latest as it comes - here at Birmingham World.
