Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes Conor Gallagher ‘can be part’ of the squad at Stamford Bridge amid the rumours linking him with a move to Aston Villa or a return to Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old England international came on leaps and bounds during his loan spell with the Eagles last season and in turn has seen himself become quite the sought after man.

He has no doubt proved that he is good enough to play some part in the Blues squad moving forward, however, may not be guaranteed the first team football option he was given during his time with Palace.

Gallagher was a popular figure with the fans, players and management at Selhurst Park so it comes as no surprise to see that a return there is heavily rumoured.

However, it was reported recently that a number of other Premier League clubs, including Villa, were monitoring the situation closely.

It is believed a fee of around £25million would be enough to land the 22-year-old though that will of course all depend on Tuchel’s stance on the matter.

What has Thomas Tuchel said about the future of Conor Gallagher?

Speaking ahead of last season’s FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Palace, Tuchel commented on the future of Gallagher after the Blues had blocked the midfielder from playing in the match-up.

“I believe Conor can be a part of our squad and can play a role with us,” he claimed.

“But I am not the only one to decide. We need to speak after the season with everybody, speak after the season about what Conor wants, we need to see what the situation is and what role we have for him that he can fight for.

“There needs to be something to fight, a role and perspective of where you are, where you can be, what you need to achieve. So we have to be very clear with him and he needs to be clear with us. Then we will sort it out. His development is extraordinary and outstanding.

“He is one of the key players at Crystal Palace and made a huge step in his development up front. He was a pleasure to coach in pre-season – he has so much positive energy, energy in general, and such work rate to give that he can have a big influence.”
