After scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-2 victory at Club Brugge earlier this month, the £65million striker followed it up by opening his Premier League account at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

It is his first strike in the competition for more than a year, having spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich from former club Chelsea.

“I’m very happy to be back and playing in the Premier League again,” the Senegalese front man told the Villa club website. “I was being careful, because I just had a yellow card before, but I just tried to touch a little bit and tried finish as quick as possible.

“That touch helped me to finish quickly and set my angle to finish as quick as possible.”

It was an important second goal in Villa’s first Premier League win of the season after a summer of massive change for Unai Emery’s squad.

“We have a long way to go,” Jackson added. “We’re just starting one month ago with new players, so we’re just trying to build. Hopefully, we get the results we want and keep working hard as we keep doing.”
