Aston Villa are in the midst of a turbulent week following the sacking of Steven Gerrard earlier this week.
Villa have endured a disappointing start to the season, and following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham, Gerrard was dismissed, beginning another search for another manager after a similar story last season. Before a manager is found, the Lions must pick themselves up for a home clash with a tricky Brentford side.

Gerrard speaks
Gerrard has spoken out following his sacking by Villa.
“I would like to thank everyone connected to Aston Villa Football Club, for the support shown to me during my time there,” Gerrard wrote on Instagram. “I would personally like to thank the board of directors, the players and all the staff for their hard work. To the fans, it is regrettable that it didn’t work out in the end, but I owe you a debt of gratitude for the way you welcomed me into your club, and continued to push the team on during difficult times.
“Aston Villa is a club with a special history, I really wanted to bring back those memorable achievements, unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I wish everyone at the club all the very best for the future.”
Tarkowski efforts
Villa are said to have tried to sign James Tarkowski before turning to Diego Carlos.

Hide AdGerrard is said to have wanted to snap up Tarkowski initially, according to The Athletic, who say the now former Villa boss spent a ‘large amount of time’ trying to convince the centre-back to join Villa on a free transfer. Tarkowski would instead join Everton, leading Villa to Diego Carlos, who was ruled out for much of the season with injury after just two games. Those are the fine margins in football management.
