Aston Villa play host to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they hope to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 loss to Fulham. The defeat on Thursday evening sealed Steven Gerrard’s fate, as the former Rangers manager was relieved of his duties as head coach.

Villa are currently hunting for a replacement, but in the interim, first-team coach Aaron Danks will be the man in the dugout. The former England U21 and West Brom staff member has quite a task on his hands to shift the Villans up the table, as they currently sit above the relegation zone on goals scored.

Six defeats, three draws and just two wins out of the opening 11 games sees Villa struggling on a mere nine points out of an available 33. With the Villans having recorded a net spend of over £50 million throughout Gerrard’s reign, supporters are frustrated with the club’s current reckoning.

Sunday’s opponents Brentford won’t be an easy side to turn over, either, as they continue to be one of the Premier League’s surprise packages under Thomas Frank. They’re currently in 10th position - five points ahead of Villa - and earned a surprise draw against an in-form Chelsea side last weekend.

The Villans will have to be at their absolute best if they are to manage a positive result in front of home supporters. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the clash, including the kick-off time, the latest team news, how to watch on TV, and how to tune into the post-match highlights.

Is Aston Villa vs Brentford on TV and how can I watch it?

Despite being picked for a 2pm Sunday kick-off - a time usually reserved for televised fixtures - on October 23, Villa’s first match without Gerrard will not be shown on live TV. There will, however, be highlights available on the Sky Sports app and Sky Sports YouTube channel around 30 minutes after the full-time whistle.

What is the team news ahead of Aston Villa vs Brentford?

After being sent off with a straight red card against Fulham, Douglas Luiz was set to be suspended and unavailable for the clash with Brentford. However, a successful appeal was made and his suspension has been rescinded. Villa will without midfielder Boubacar Kamara, though, who is missing with a knee injury. He is expected to return after the World Cup.
