Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard believes that his side ‘edged the chances’ in the dull 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

It was a game that won’t live long in the memory from an attacking point of view but the former Liverpool captain was pleased with a more disciplined defensive display from his men.

We were compact, we looked very organised,” Gerrard said.

“We changed something tactically slightly in a certain part of the game but I think that’s the big positive to take away from today - the clean sheet.

“We haven’t had enough of these on the road as the season has gone on. If we would have, we’d be higher up in the league.

“I think we deserved a clean sheet and it’s important if you can’t win at places like this that you take something away from the game so I’m satisfied with our defensive performance for sure.

“I think also across the 90 minutes we probably just edged the chances as well as far as I’m concerned.

“Positive point. We came here to win and we couldn’t do that so it’s important we stopped the losing run and that gives us a base to take into Norwich next week.”
