Aston Villa fell to 19th in the Premier League table following a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

Gabriel Jesus carried on his fine goalscoring form when he gave the hosts the lead midway through the first-half before Douglas Luiz levelled things up with 15 to go.

Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners back in front just minutes later though and made sure that it was the Gunners that were able to take home a well deserved three points.

It’s just one win from the opening five games now for the claret and blue who will drop to the bottom of the Premier League should Leicester City beat Manchester United on Thursday evening.

If frustrations weren’t already building among the Villa faithful, they certainly are now.

Here’s a snippet of what is being said following the loss.

What Aston Villa fans are saying

@DanMatthewsAV: “Sack him now. Forget the result, that performance was absolutely horrific and just another example through 2022 that he isn’t the man for the job. We’re getting worse game by game.”

@mahomezs: “our best hope of a goal is luiz scoring a corner because gerrard is that bad we literally cannot create and chance if that isn’t a sackable offence i don’t know what is”

@surreyvillan: “You sacked the best thing that happened to this club in my lifetime for this rubbish? This is a Purslow vanity project gone horribly wrong, Gerrard simply isn’t close to being up to the level needed. Wes and Nassef, get him gone now and get Purslow gone while you’re at it #avfc”

@Snorrebrekke: “Nah im sorry but can he coach? What are we paying him for? I have never in my life seen a game where a team has 0 tactics. Its legit hoofing the ball up and crossing our fingers. How can our owners watch this. Please please get rid of Gerrard. This is so awful”

@stuartjharper: “Nothing about our situation is right. For SG to have a chance we need a forward, the definition of madness is to repeatedly play Watkins & Ings and expect goals. But conversely, a better manager would get better performances from this squad. The deficiencies are many #AVFC”

@dale_villain: “Well no-one really expected us to get a result tonight and based on the first half it could have been a lot worse. Second half performance was marginally better but still not a lot of idea. Substitutions are predictable, no real tactics or a plan. It’s not looking good. #AVFC”

@LivetoinspireMo: Absolutely shocking performance. I even had more faith with smith as manager. Can’t believe we sacked him for this. #Avfc #GerrardOut”

@PjSteggles: “Lucas digne is the worst left back in the world”
