Lee Carsley names his England squad for the Three Lions’ Nations League double-header on Thursday.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is ‘ready’ for a call up to the England squad, according to Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.

The 22-year-old has been a key player for the Villains this season, and has featured heavily under Unai Emery. He's so far registered three goals and three assists across the Premier League and the Champions League.

He's yet to make his debut for the England squad however despite putting in a string of good performances this term. Rogers only made his debut for the under-21s team in March, having been called up by Lee Carsley, and now in what is Carsley's final two games in charge, there’s a hope that Rogers could be involved.

The Three Lions face Greece (November 14) and the Republic of Ireland (November 17) as they battle for promotion to League A of the Nations League. With Thomas Tuchel set to take over in January, it will be interesting to see what squad Carsley names on Thursday, and if Rogers will come in to his plans.

“Another player who is banging on the same door as Lewis Hall is Morgan Rogers,” said Shearer.

“Right from the off this season, Rogers has played a huge part in what Aston Villa are doing.

“He looks as if he's ready for an England call-up and very much like Lewis Hall, if it's not this camp, and he keeps playing like he has then it will come, I don't have a doubt about that.’

Should Rogers not get called up to the senior squad then England's under-21s have matches against Spain (November 15) and Netherlands (November 18). In August, Unai Emery was surprised Rogers was included in the England under-21s squad, and admitted his worry after Jacob Ramsey had picked up an injury whilst on international duty.

‘What is a player like Morgan Rogers gaining by playing for the U21s?’ said Emery to the Daily Mail.

‘I am surprised. I respect that they are not calling him for the first team, but the second team?

‘He is not a player for the second team. Hopefully he will come back here in good shape.

'Last year, Ramsey came back injured and barely played all season which was very painful for us and we lost a lot without him.

‘If they had called him for the senior team, I could understand it. Morgan Rogers is a reality now and he is confirming it – not to play for the Under-21s.’
