Former Aston Villa defender and assistant manager John Terry has issued a rallying call to the claret and blue ahead of their Premier League match against Manchester City on Sautrday evening.

Villa currently sit 19th in the league table following a torrid start to the season which has seen them pick up just one win and with pressure building on manager Steven Gerrard, Terry has sent the team a mini team-talk of his own via Twitter.

In a tweet that was actually sent as a happy birthday message to Villa’s number one, Emi Martinez - the former Chelsea captain urged the Argentine to get the Villans to ‘put in a big performance’ against the current Premier League champions on Saturday.

“Happy Birthday @emimartinezz1,” he wrote. “Get the f*cking boys together and put in a big performance at Villa Park this weekend.”

Villa will need more than a big performance to take anything from City who have once again started the campaign like a house on fire.

The Citizens remain unbeaten and have already found the net 19 times, no thanks to summer signing Erling Haaland who has himself bagged nine of those.

Gerrard’s men on the other hand have just one win and three points to their name and sit second bottom of the table prior to the fixture.
