Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher singled out young Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey as one of the stand out players on the pitch during Villa’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

The 21-year-old provided the assist for Leon Bailey to bag the claret and blue’s equaliser on the night and was unlucky not to score a goal of his own earlier in the contest.

“Jacob Ramsey does fantastically well, he really does,” Carragher told Sky Sports whilst he was reviewing Villa’s equaiser.

“We spoke about his poor first touch trying to take it onto his right foot earlier on (when going through on goal).

“But this is completely different – that right foot touch and left foot cross, then Leon Bailey uses the pace on the cross and it just flies past Ederson before he can react.

“Since Ramsey went deeper, he is having a real impact in the game. He is a top-quality player that young man.”

Ramsey burst onto the scene last year for Villa and was in turn offered a new five-year contract by Steven Gerrard last April.

The 21-year-old has continued to impress in the early stages of this season and will hope to add more assists and goals to his tally as the season progresses.
