Former Arsenal star pens 27-word farewell message as Aston Villa transfer decision made
Departing Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers has thanked the club after his move to Cardiff City was confirmed.
News broke yesterday that Chambers was on his way out of Villa Park with a medical booked. The transfer has moved at a rapid pace and now the Bluebirds have unveiled him as their first signing of the summer.

Hide AdChambers leaves on a permanent basis with one-year remaining on his contract. Villa in their confirmation statement said that Chambers wanted to leave as he wanted to play more first team football at this stage of his career. Villa said that he departed with their best wishes of everyone at the football club.
The 29-year-old has since returned the favour and thanked Villa for how they treated him during his two years spent in the Midlands. He joined on a free transfer from Arsenal in the January 2022 transfer window when Steven Gerrard was in charge.
In a post shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Chambers along with a photo of him celebrating a goal, said: “I would like to thank everyone at Aston Villa Football Club for the last few years! I wish the club all the best for the future! UTV.”
Chambers went on to play in the Claret and Blue of Villa 36 times, and scored once in a 3-0 win over Leeds United in March 2022. He was offered the opportunity to leave Villa in January but stayed put and played eight times last season, as he worked as a back-up to Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash.
