Aston Villa will be keen to kick on after the January transfer window, with the aim likely being to secure their Premier League top-half status and perhaps make a late push for the European spots. After a week or so away from competitive action, the Villans will be back playing in England’s top tier on Saturday as they face Leicester City.
There was no late deadline day drama for Lions supporters to dig their teeth into, but there was a surprise return for Bertrand Traore. The winger, who had spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Basaksehir in Turkey, is back to fight for a spot in the senior squad. Although he is currently injured, he could make an impact as soon as in a few weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, long-term absentee Diego Carlos is close to finally making a return from an Achilles’ tendon injury and new signings Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran have had a little longer to settle in at their new club. We could see the pair have quite the involvement in the 18 Premier League fixtures remaining this term.
With that in mind, here is what we think is Villa’s strongest starting XI and substitutes’ bench once all players are fit and available. See below.

1. GK: Emiliano Martinez
Easy choice, even with a decent backup available in Robin Olsen. The Argentinian is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. | Getty Images

2. RB: Ashley Young
Based on how Young and Matty Cash have played this season, we think the former England international is the best option. | Getty Images

3. CB: Diego Carlos
Had so much promise when he signed but is yet to play much because of his injury. We expect him to be key in the latter stages. | Getty Images

4. CB: Tyrone Mings
Sometimes a bit inconsistent but is getting there with Emery’s passing out from the back tactics. | Getty Images
