Aston Villa ‘weighing up’ transfer move for Chelsea and England star as loan deal is ‘agreed’

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly under consideration for a move to Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Crystal Palace last season as he scored eight goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for Patrick Vieira’s side.

Gallagher has returned to Stamford Bridge and it is not yet clear where he will be plying his trade during the upcoming Premier League season.

However, it seems the midfielder will be given a chance to impress Blues manager Thomas Tuchel during his side’s pre-season campaign.

Speaking last month, the German said: “They come back for a point.

“We have pre-season with them for them to show they can play the role we wish for. They are our players.

“Whoever takes the place needs to do anything to keep the place.”

Gallagher has already addressed his future during his time away on international duty with England.

“I have not really had time to think about it to be honest,” he said.

“The long season at Palace has only just finished really and then I have come here with England.

“I am going to be honest that’s all I am thinking about, the next four games here. I want to do well. I have not really thought about it.”

The Express and Star have reported Aston Villa are one of a number of clubs interested in taking the midfielder on loan ahead of the new season to hand him a chance of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this winter’s World Cup in Qatar.

Gerrard set for second Sevilla swoop

Villa boss Steven Gerrard has already enjoyed a productive summer transfer window with Boubacar Kamara, Robin Olsen, Philippe Coutinho and Diego Carlos all joining the club this summer.

A fifth summer signing is said to be close after a loan deal for Sevilla left-back Ludwig Augustinsson was reportedly agreed over the weekend.

Spanish outlet Mucho Deporte have stated a loan fee of around £425,000 was set to be agreed and there will be an option to convert the move into a permanent deal at the end of the season.
