McGinn brutal on exit talk

John McGinn has revealed he “started looking elsewhere” before Unai Emery’s appointment at Aston Villa. The Scotland international had been dropped from the team following Steven Gerrard’s final game - a 3-0 hiding to Fulham. But McGinn has enjoyed a resurgence under the Spaniard and is now within reach of his first Champions League campaign. Speaking to TNT Sports, he admitted his days were almost over at Villa Park.

“I thought I was done,” McGinn said. “At that time, you kind of have a feel as a player. You think right, at the time the supporters thought I was honking. I just came out of the team, the team started doing well again for a couple of games.

“You’re not stupid as a footballer, you think right you might have to start looking elsewhere, which I did. I spoke to the manager, he had every stat, every detail on his notepad in appearances I’ve played for St Mirren, Hibs and goals. Then he asked what’s your preferred position and I said ‘Just not on the bench like the last few games’.”

Fresh Neto price tag

CaughtOffside reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed Wolves could demand £80million for Pedro Neto. London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are two clubs reportedly chasing the winger.

“Pedro Neto is going to be in demand this summer and that should allow Wolves to stick to their asking price,” Jacobs said. “Neto is contracted until 2027 so suitors wishing to sign the in-form 23-year-old are going to have to accept Wolves’ steep valuation.

“It’s understood that offers will be engaged with from £65m+, but the final number Wolves are looking for could be as high as £80m. No specific fee is being quoted yet directly to interested clubs. The only advantage the likes of Arsenal and Spurs perhaps have is Wolves, like many other Premier League clubs, will be conscious of profit and sustainability rules.”
