Aston Villa have suffered a fresh injury update ahead of Sunday’s big game with Newcastle United, with Steven Gerrard confirming that Bertrand Traore is once again facing a spell on the sidelines.

Traore, who has just spent time away with Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations, returned to the country this week but did so with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old has made just one start in this campaign for Villa so far due to injury and following what was a largely successful AFCON tournament from a personal perspective, looked to have put the niggling problems behind him.

But now the winger is facing yet another ‘few weeks’ on the sideline according to Gerrard who admits he is very frustrated by the whole situation.

Elsewhere and Emi Buendia is a big doubt for Sunday’s contest after he picked up an impact in the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

January’s player of the month collided with the goalpost in the second-half and it’s one that will go down to the wire in terms of whether he will be available for selection or not versus the Magpies.

Better news however comes in the shape of Leon Bailey who after a good two weeks of training could be in contention to get some minutes against Newcastle United, though they are likely to come from the bench.
