Aston Villa are reportedly eager to bring former loan favourite Tammy Abraham back to the club, as Serie A giants Roma are growing increasingly willing to sell the Englishman. The ex-Chelsea striker has struggled this season and manager Jose Mourinho is said to be getting frustrated with a lack of goals scored.

Before heading into the World Cup break, Abraham managed to score just three times in 15 league appearances - a far worse record than the 17 he netted in 37 games last campaign. The 25-year-old, who spent the 2018-19 season on loan with Villa, has been unable to regain his blistering form seen in days gone by.

As reported in Italian outlet Calcio Mercato via Football Italia, Abraham is ‘no longer considered unsellable’ and Roma would ‘be willing to sell him’ in the upcoming summer transfer window. Chelsea have a buy-back option of around €75 million (£64.7 million), but it is hard to imagine they would fork out a figure that high - especially with Romelu Lukaku’s failed return only recently.

The report states Aston Villa are ‘seriously considering’ the idea of bringing Abraham back, in the hope he can recreate the success he managed in his last spell at the club. The striker, who has played 11 times for England, scored 26 goals in 40 Villa appearances, playing a huge role as the Lions were promoted back to the Premier League.

He then went back to his parent club Chelsea, contributing an impressive 15 goals and four assists in his first full season in the top flight. Abraham wasn’t as on fire the campaign after, with six netted that time around, and he went on to try a new challenge in Italy, signing for Roma.

If Abraham were to make a sensational return to Villa Park, he would be adding plenty of competition for the likes of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins. It would also provide new manager Unai Emery with another dimension up top, as Abraham is taller than the club’s current crop.

As stated in the report, though, Villa would likely have to wait until the summer for a move. Nonetheless, this seems to be one to watch, and in the meantime, it’s likely rather refreshing for the Villans faithful to see a former favourite linked.
