Aston Villa predicted XI gallery vs Man Utd - as Unai Emery makes seven changes in Carabao Cup

Here’s how we predict Aston Villa to line up against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

Aston Villa head to Old Trafford on Thursday evening to face Manchester United for the second time in the space of five days. Unai Emery’s side recorded a historic victory over the Red Devils in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Villans now play United again in a bid to advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Villa were drawn against the Reds at the end of August after knocking out League One team Bolton Wanderers under Steven Gerrard.

It is expected that Emery will rotate his squad somewhat, but perhaps not quite as much as usual for a cup clash, considering the World Cup break is not far away. It will be largely the same for Erik ten Hag, though he will be welcoming back some key players who were not available at the weekend.

Bruno Fernandes, for instance, is available once more after serving a one-match ban. As is Anthony Martial, who is fully fit after featuring off the bench on Sunday. The Lions meanwhile will have to make at least one change with defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker cup-tied.

Playing away at Old Trafford is a different kettle of fish for Emery’s men to take on, and the Red Devils will of course be eager to get revenge. With that in mind, this is the rather strong starting 11 we think Villa will line up with on Thursday - in a 4-2-2-2 formation.
