Aston Villa take on Manchester United for the second time in the space of five days on Thursday evening as they head to Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup. Unai Emery got off to a wonderful start as Villa’s new head coach on Sunday, beating the Red Devils 3-1.

Goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey sealed three points for the Villans, soaring them up to 13th place in the Premier League standings. Now Emery will be hoping to do the double over Erik ten Hag’s side, progressing to the fourth round.

It won’t be easy, of course, as United - despite their poor showing at the weekend - are a good side. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Antony can create opportunities out of nothing and are always a threat.

The Red Devils had been on a nine-game unbeaten streak before Villa got the better of them, including wins over West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Sociedad. Their confidence will have taken a hit in their last match, though, and Emery’s side will likely come into the clash on a high.

Both teams have some updates as regards who is and isn’t available - including some key players. With that in here is the latest injury news ahead of kick-off.

What is the team news ahead of Manchester United vs Aston Villa?

Villa will be without two summer purchases, with Leander Dendoncker and Jan Bednarek both cup-tied and therefore ineligible for selection. Diego Carlos has been pictured back at Bodymoor Heath but won’t be back until the new year. Attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is ruled out with a thigh problem.
