Aston Villa have been put on high alert after one of their key January transfer targets has made his intentions clear that he’s ready to leave his current club in the summer.

That’s according to 90min who claim Yves Bissouma has indicated to Brighton that he wants to be able to move on during the next transfer window.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard identified Bissouma as one of his number one targets early doors during his tenure at Villa Park as he looked to strengthen the midfield following the loss of Marvelous Nakamba to injury.

The Mali international has become one of the most highly sought after prospects in the Premier League with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all having expressed interest for him over the course of the last 12 months.

Villa, to this date though, are said to be the only club that have had a firm bid rejected for the 25-year-old, something that Gerrard admitted was true when he sat down with the press at the close of the January transfer window.

“It was well documented that we put in a bid for Bissouma at Brighton which was turned away, and we respected and appreciated it,” he said at the time.

“If a move is not right then we will not become desperate and make a decisions that we do not think is right. If it’s not right at the time we might have to be patient in a few situations.

“I won’t be a manager who will try to be wasteful or compromise in certain situations and go down the list because I believe our fans and this club deserves the right people in the right positions,” he added.

“If that’s the case and we have to be patient then we’ll do it.”

Bissouma will have 12 months remaining on his contract in the summer and with the holding midfielder making it clear that he wants to move on, it would come as no surprise to see Villa go back in for him early doors in the summer.
