Aston Villa's new starting lineup for 2025/26 if transfer rumours are true - as £98m quartet signed

Here’s how Aston Villa’s star-studded new lineup could look in 2025/26, with four new signings.

Aston Villa have enjoyed another extraordinary season under Unai Emery and are becoming all the more attractive of a club to join as the months go by.

The Villans are firmly in the Premier League top five fight, exceeded all expectations in the Champions League by reaching the quarter-finals and were one game away from the FA Cup final as they lost to Crystal Palace in the last four. All of these achievements have boosted the allure of the football club.

Emery’s focus certainly remains on ending the current season on a high but one eye - at least that of Monchi’s - is already on 2025/26 with future transfers being planned. It’s common knowledge at this point that there’s an option to buy Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United for £40 million, while Marco Asensio could also join for the long term from Paris Saint-Germain, but other positions could also be strengthened.

One area Emery is keen to improve is the centre of defence. Axel Disasi joined on an expensive £5 million half-season loan deal from Chelsea in January and he could theoretically re-sign for longer, but many alternative options are on a shortlist and being considered. Meanwhile, a versatile young forward is desired but not a necessity.

Transfer speculation is building speed ahead of the summer window, with just under a month to wait until Villa can start bringing in new additions. So, what could next season’s lineup look like if the rumours are true? Here, Birmingham World provides a full run-through.

Aston Villa’s new starting XI if the transfer rumours are true

GK - Joan Garcia: With Emiliano Martinez being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, Villa could step up their pursuit of Espanyol goalkeeper Garcia. The 24-year-old, who has been linked with Real Madrid, Man City and Arsenal, has a release clause of just £20 million.

RB - Matty Cash: Despite the January acquisition of Andres Garcia, Cash has kept his spot as Villa’s first-choice right-back. He’s really come into his own these past few months, and so this position isn’t a priority in the upcoming window.

CB - Enzo Boyomo: Villa have been scouting the 23-year-old Osasuna defender, who has impressed this season and become one of La Liga’s most promising centre-halves. The Cameroonian is available for a bargain £21 million release clause this summer.

CB - Ezri Konsa: The new England international has proven his reliability at both right-back and centre-back, but he’s best in the latter position. Konsa even could shift across to the left in place out of the out-of-form Pau Torres.

LB - Ian Maatsen: Finally beginning to start ahead of Lucas Digne in the Premier League, Maatsen has been in terrific form lately. The Dutchman is now showing signs of the potential Villa saw when they forked out £37.5 million to sign him from Chelsea.

CM - Boubacar Kamara: Seen as one of Villa’s most indispensable players, Kamara is expected to sign a new contract before long as talks are ongoing. Emery loves the physicality and awareness the Frenchman possesses.

CM - Youri Tielemans: The standout contender for the Player of the Season award, Tielemans has been in incredible form. No player has racked up more minutes than the Belgium international, though he’s unfortunately ending the campaign injured.

CAM - Marco Asensio: Heading into the final 12 months of his PSG contract, Asensio could join permanently this summer. The three-time Champions League winner has really hit the ground running at Villa Park and could be available for as little as £15 million.

RW - Morgan Rogers: Linked with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea recently, Rogers has emerged as one of Villa’s star players. Emery is unwilling to sell him, though, with the England international firmly in the plans for the future.

LW - Jacob Ramsey: Really starting to find his feet now he’s been able to maintain consistent match sharpness, Ramsey is developing at a rate of knots. Emery will continue to work wonders with the Englishman, no doubt, and he could thrive if the option to buy Rashford is refused.

ST - Samu Aghehowa: Villa are in the market for a new striker and Porto’s Aghehowa, wanted by Arsenal, could be the man to rotate with Ollie Watkins. The former Atletico Madrid star is on Villa’s shortlist and is available for around £42.5 million this summer.
