Aston Villa are sweating over the fitness of Matty Cash after he suffered an injury whilst on international duty.

The 26-year-old came off after just 11 minutes when coming on as a half-time substitute for Poland. They won convincingly against Estonia with a 5-1 scoreline to reach the play-off final.

Poland play Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, March 29. They will have to do without the right-back however because of a hamstring problem. It does put his status in to doubt for when club action resumes.

“A great night in Warsaw ended in a bad one for me!” Cash wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Best of luck in the final everyone! Let’s go Polska! 1 more.”

Cash has been first-choice right-back this season with 40 appearances in all competitions. He has made 29 starts in those matches though he didn't start last time out against West Ham. If Cash's injury does rule him out for a few weeks he could either be replaced by Ezri Konsa or Calum Chambers. They are already hoping that Jacob Ramsey could return from his injury having missed the last four matches with a foot injury.

Elsewhere on the international stage, Morgan Rogers started for England under-21s in their EURO 2025 qualifier away in Azerbaijan. The young Three Lions won 5-1 with former Villa youngster Jaden Philogene on the score sheet. Lee Carsley's side are currently below Ukraine on the head-to-head.

Meanwhile, Bayern Hunich striker Harry Kane was absent from England training on Friday. It could mean that Ollie Watkins could lead the line for England when they host Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, March 23.

In other news, Independiente Medelin right-winger John Edwin Montano has been training with Villa over the last week. He was invited to train for two weeks with the club ahead of a possible transfer.

Villa’s 2023/24 season resumes when they return to club action on Saturday, March 30. They host West Midlands rivals Wolves at Villa Park on Saturday, March 30.
