Unai Emery and the under-pressure Erik ten Hag both have injuries to contend with ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match.

Aston Villa are back in Premier League action as they host Manchester United at Villa Park on Sunday (October 6).

The Villains are on a high after defeating German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League courtesy of a strike from super-sub Jhon Duran. United on the other hand left it late as they squandered a two-goal lead to only draw against Porto. Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund put them in front inside 20 minutes but then they fell behind, with Harry Maguire scoring in the first minute of added on time to rescue a point.

Aston Villa team news

A new injury concern arose on Wednesday as Jacob Ramsey was replaced on the half-hour mark. Ramsey pulled up and was replaced by Leon Bailey.

Amadou Onana looked to have come off an injury as well in Villa's Champions League tie. Onana was replaced on the hour mark for Ross Barkley, and it appeared that he picked up a hamstring problem.

Nothing was given away by Emery on Ramsey or Onana in his post-match press conference, but he will have been assessed on Thursday, and Emery in his press conference will deliver a verdict on Friday (October 4).

John McGinn is recovering from a hamstring injury that he picked up in the 3-1 win against Wolves. He was left out of Scotland's squad for their upcoming Nations League qualifiers and that will come as a relief, as he can use that time to recover.

Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings are making progress with their knee injuries. Kamara has been out since February, whilst Mings has been sidelined since August. The plan for Kamara and Mings is to play for the under-21s, before intergrating them back in to the first team.

Out: Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn, and Tyrone Mings. Doubt: Jacob Ramsey, and Amadou Onana.

Man United team news

Tyrell Malacia is a long-term absentee, and hasn't played for the Red Devils since May 2023. He will need to return to full training and build up his fitness, before being considered for the first-team.

Luke Shaw is expected to come back after the international break. He’s got a calf strain, and has not made an appearance this season. His last match was the EURO 2024 final with England.

Leny Yorogo picked up a metatarsal injury in pre-season during United's tour of the United States. He was forced to undergo surgery, and this week was pictured at their Carrington training ground. No return date has been given, but he should begin training again soon.

Mason Mount suffered a head injury against Spurs which saw blood come from his wound. He passed a concussion protocol, but wasn't in the squad against FC Porto.

Kobbie Mainoo didn't play against FC Porto because of a 'minor' injury. He had trained all week but came off just before half-time in the defeat to Spurs. Mainoo travelled to Portugal but played no part.

Out: Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia. Doubt: Mason Mount, and Kobbie Mainoo.
