Aston Villa are reportedly planning to make a ‘firm offer’ to Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos just weeks after he signed a new deal with the La Liga giants.

The 13-times capped Spain international had looked set to leave the Bernabeu this summer when his contract came to a close. Several clubs were linked with a move for his services and Ceballos has now agreed a new four-year deal that will keep him in the Spanish capital until the summer of 2027.

Despite that agreement, Spanish outlet Sport have reported Villa boss Unai Emery is keen to secure a reunion with the midfielder after he took Ceballos on loan during his time in charge at Arsenal.

The report suggests Villa see the 26-year-old as key to their ambitious plans under Emery, with the former Villarreal manager said to have ‘carte blanche’ over recruitment as he looks to build on an impressive first season in charge.

Following the arrivals of Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler, Ceballos could find his game-time limited with Real and Villa hope to take advantage by securing a deal to hand the midfielder a second chance to impress in the Premier League. However, the report also reveals AC Milan are also considering a move for Ceballos and will provide the main competition to Emery’s plans.

The 24-year-old was part of the Whites squad that suffered relegation from the top flight last season and that has activated a release clause in his current contract that would allow him to depart Elland Road for around £25million. The Daily Mail has reported Villa are willing to meet the clause but they will face competition from Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United.
