Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has delivered a squad fitness update ahead of Sunday afternoon’s clash with Crystal Palace including the status of Ollie Watkins.

Watkins hobbled off late on in the defeat to Liverpool and Gerrard mentioned after the game that he will be a doubt for the game with Palace.

That doubt remains there, too, with the manager confirming in his pre-match presser that the England forward has been unable to train all week - though is hoping he will be involved tomorrow.

“Ollie hasn’t trained yet since the game but he’s still got a chance to be involved,” Gerrard explained.

“We’re hoping he’s going to take part in tomorrow’s session.

“It’s a knock on his ankle, I don’t think it’s too serious.

“I’m told by the doctor he’ll be coming out tomorrow to try and train so all being well, he’ll be available.”

Another notable injury concern going into Sunday’s match was the status of Jacob Ramsey who has missed the last two but it’s better news in regards to the newly crowned ‘players’ player of the year’ with the manager adding that he is now back and available.

“JJ is back in the group, he’s trained for the last couple of days and he’s looking good, looking strong - big positive for us,” he said.

“Emi Buendia left training yesterday with a knock but trained today so that’s no issue.

“Leon Bailey is still not ready to return and Kortney Hause is not ready to return.

“Everyone else is ready to go.”
