After what was a tough start to the campaign under Steven Gerrard for Aston Villa, the Midlands outfit now find themselves in contention for a European spot. The Villans’ form has massively improved under Unai Emery and they now sit only four points from seventh place in the Premier League.

Aston Villa’s position further up the table at the end of the season could leave them in a position to lure some higher quality players to Villa Park in comparison to those that may have joined when they were hovering above the relegation zone five months ago. The club have already been heavily linked with a number of star players, while Emery has unsurprisingly got his eyes on those that he is familiar with in La Liga.

Here are the latest transfer headlines from the Midlands...

Aston Villa ‘target’ striker reunion

Aston Villa are in pole position to re-sign Tammy Abraham this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport. The report claims that the forward has asked the club to sell him and is open to a move back to the Premier League.

Abraham set Serie A alight when he first joined AS Roma last season, netting 18 goals in 39 matches. However, his form has faltered this time round and he has recently found himself replaced in the starting line-up by Andrea Belotti.

The former Chelsea striker is also eager to earn his spot back in the England squad and could see a move back to his home country as a much easier way to impress Gareth Southgate. He could even return to Villa Park to rediscover his form, after previously netting 26 goals whilst on loan with Aston Villa during their time in the Championship.

The report claims that Abraham is likely to be available for around the €40 million (£34m) that Roma paid for him, with the Italians already looking to possible alternatives that they could sign if the 25-year-old does leave the club this summer.

Wolves ‘eye’ Mike Tresor

Wolves have set their sights on Genk’s Mike Tresor, according to 90min. The winger has impressed in his native country this season and already has an impressive seven goals and 18 assists to his name as Genk sit three points clear at the top of the Belgian Pro League.

Tresor’s form has unsurprisingly attracted interest from across Europe, with Burnley reportedly making an unsuccessful approach to sign him in January. Meanwhile, Wolves have joined Leicester, Brentford, Brighton and Nottingham Forest as the clubs who have watched him in recent months.

With Adama Traore likely to leave at the end of the season once his contract expires, Tresor could be an ideal replacement for Wolves. However, it is unclear how much the 23-year-old would cost with two years still remaining on his current deal in Belgium.
