Aston Villa and Wolves are now patiently waiting for the return of club football as international football takes centre stage.

It has been a steady season for Villa, albeit it took the appointment of Unai Emery for the club to pull firmly away from the relegation fight. Villa have no concern about going down at this point, but the same cannot be said of Wolves, and especially not after their disappointing home defeat to Leeds United, a defeat that saw Julen lopetegui’s men pulled back into the thick of the relegation picture.

As both Midlands clubs look forward to the return of club football, we have rounded up the latest news surrounding both clubs.

Martinez boost

Emiliano Martinez doesn’t have any plans to leave Villa despite being linked with an exit due to reported friction with Emery.

“My career went through the roof since I joined the club. I’ve always said I’m grateful to this club and I love being here,” the Argentine told GOAL.

“My family’s happy at the club; my boy is obsessed with playing football and he plays for Under-6s in the Academy. We’re loving our time here and hopefully there are many years to come.”

Neves price tag

Wolves are said to have slapped a price tag on Ruben Neves amid reported interest from the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to The Mirror, Wolves will ask for around £50million to sell Neves, who is out of contract in the summer of 2024 as things stand. Neves has been superb for Wolves over recent years, but the Midlands club will have to consider selling him if they cannot agree a new contract.

The Portugal international will lose value the closer to the end of his contract he goes, and Wolves will be acutely aware of that.
