Aston Villa’s campaign has now drawn to a close following a dramatic final day.

Steven Gerrard’s men almost delivered the Premier League title to Liverpool on Sunday, but they fell victim to a superb comeback from Manchester City.

Villa ended up losing 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium, and they had to settle for a 14th place finish as a results.

The work now begins for next season, albeit with a few weeks off for most, with Gerrard keen to put his own stamp on this squad.

The Lions will be desparate to build on the progress they have managed in the second half of this season.

And it will be interesting to see how the squad looks come next season, with key additions required if Villa are to make a run at the top half of the table.

Kamara deal done

Villa have completed the signing of Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Kamara was in-demand this summer with his Marseille contract set to expire at the end of June, but Villa have managed to win the race.

The Lions announced on Monday that a five-year deal has been struck, with Kamara to link up with his new club on July 1.

Gerrard said of the deal: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract one of the most promising young talents in European football.

“We have a very clear plan to make our team stronger and Bouba is an important part of that.”

Luiz exit links

Roma are said to be pursuing a deal for Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Luiz could be moved on this summer as a result of the Kamara deal, and according to ForzaRoma.it via Inside Futbol, Roma are keen.

Villa are said to want around £17million for Luiz, but the report claims Roma are confident of reducing that fee.

It will be interesting to see whether Villa hold out for their asking price now that they have their replacement.
