Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings made one young fan’s dreams come true recently - here’s how

Tyrone Mings helped fulfil the dream of a young Aston Villa fan as they walked out together at Villa Park before Villa’s 2-1 win over Tottenham last Saturday (May 13).

Lucy wrote a letter to the club recently to tell them about her passion for the beautiful game, her disabilities and the fun time she enjoys playing football with the Aston Villa Foundation.

The 15-year-old from Solihull is profoundly deaf and wears cochlear implants, and also has autism and a right-sided weakness – although she prefers “to think of my disabilities as superpowers”. Villa centre half and England international Mings visited her house to surprise her before making her dream come true against Tottenham Hotspur.

In her letter, Lucy wrote: “To all the people at Aston Villa, hello, my name is Lucy and i’m a huge Villa supporter. I go to home games with my family and we all sit in the Lower Holte End. My favourite players are Tyrone Mings and Philippe Coutinho. I like to think of my disabilities as super powers. I’m profoundly deaf and wears cochlear implants which come in handy when the stadium gets noisy.

“I also have autism, this makes my brain work differently to other peoples and cerebal palsy on my right side. However, I still live and breathe football. Football has taught me how to act on and off the football pitch. When i’m captain in training I aspire to be like all the captains before me.”

In the letter, Lucy went on to say her ultimate goal is to walk out onto the Villa Park pitch and meet some players. In the heartwarming video which you can watch below, the Villa captain goes round to Lucy’s house to meet her before walking out onto the pitch with the players and even having a kick about with Ashley Young.
