Liverpool be without one of their key players when they play against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa will take on Premier League leaders Liverpool on November 9 - and the Reds could be without one of their star players for that game, following news of an injury sustained by Alisson Becker in their game against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The Brazilian is expected to be out for ‘a few weeks’, during which time Liverpool will rely on Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher to perform in his stead between the sticks.

He missed out on a couple of Premier League games earlier in the season with a similar injury. As such, it seems unlikely that the Reds will risk him as early as November 9 as they will not want to risk exacerbating this recurring problem, even in such a crucial game for them.

What has been said regarding Alisson’s injury?

Speaking to the press on Alisson’s injury, Slot said: “We don’t know definitely what happened but we do if you walk off like he does that normally means he’s not in the Brazil squad and I don’t expect him to be in the team in the first game we play afterwards [at home to Chelsea on October 20].

“It’s going to take a few weeks, I assume. I think it is his hamstring. Alisson is our clear number one and is the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured, not only for himself but also for us as a team.

“The positive thing for the team, not only in the goalkeeper position but also in almost every position, is that we also have a second option that’s really good. Caoimhin has already shown this season that he’s quite clearly the number two goalkeeper. He did really well.”

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also chipped in on Alisson’s injury, stating: “Alisson's injury doesn't look good. It looks like a hamstring injury which was already bothering him, and from which he recovered.”
