Aston Villa return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Elland Road to take on Leeds United.

The Villans have been without domestic football since their 1-0 home win against Southampton on September 16 due to the international break.

Steven Gerrard’s side haven’t had the easiest of starts to the campaign, losing four of their opening seven league games, drawing one and winning twice.

Despite the criticism around the international break taking place, it could be argued that it has come at a good time for Villa given their form.

The break allows Gerrard and his staff to assess their opening seven league games and indicate what they need to work on if they want to progress up the table.

Villa’s boss has been without several of his players during the break, with the Nations League group stage coming to an end and non-European nations playing friendlies.

Jan Bednarek and Leander Dendoncker have finished their international duties following Poland and Belgium’s Nations League group stage fixtures, but six Villans can still represent their country in the next few days.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the five Villa players who could feature during the last international break before the World Cup…

John McGinn - Scotland

The Villa skipper has been in great form for his nation, scoring in their 3-0 win over Ukraine last Wednesday and featuring in their 2-1 victory over Ireland three days later - his 50th cap for Scotland.

He and his teammates will face Ukraine in their final Nations League group stage game on Tuesday and will be hoping they can secure promotion from League B.

Robin Olsen - Sweden

The shot-stopper started between the sticks in Sweden’s 4-1 defeat to Serbia on Saturday and is expected to feature against Slovenia on Tuesday evening. A win would move his nation off the bottom of the group and avoid relegation.

Ludwig Augustinsson - Sweden

The 28-year-old joined Villa on loan from Sevilla in the summer and is yet to feature for Gerrard’s side. He featured for Sweden against Serbia and could remain in the starting XI for their clash with Slovenia on Tuesday.

Jacob Ramsey - England Under-21

The midfielder was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for September and earned his seventh cap for England’s U21 side against Italy on Thursday. He could make that an eighth outing for the Young Lions if he features against Germany U21 on Tuesday.

Emiliano Martínez - Argentina

The Villa no.1 was an unused substitute in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Honduras in the early hours of Saturday morning, but could feature in their friendly against Jamaica on Wednesday.
