13 of the best photos from Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace

The result was secondary in truth on Sunday as Aston Villa celebrated the 40th anniversary of their Rotterdamn heroes.

Aston Villa’s penultimate home game of the season ended honours even as they played out a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Ollie Watkins had given the Villans the lead midway through the second-half but a Jeffrey Schlupp equaliser with just 10 minutes to go meant that both sides left Villa Park with a point.

The game itself however was mainly overshadowed by the celebrations pre-match - and rightly so.

This weekend marked the 40th anniversary of Villa’s historic European Cup win in Rotterdam and the members of that legendary squad were given plenty of well deserved recognition.

The current group gave them a guard of honour as they made their way on to the hollowed turf of Villa Park once more and flags were raised around the ground along with a giant tifo of the Champions League trophy.

There were some incredible photos from the day shared by many online but here’s just 13 of the best that we’ve dug out.
