Aston Villa and Wolves meet in a West Midlands Derby in their first game back after the international break in the Premier League.

Both clubs have players away on international duty and will be hopeful that no one picks up an injury whilst they are away. The global phenomenon that is the Prem means players are on different continents and some have long-haul flights back to Europe.

It's still nine days to go until the match, but the injury situation is something worth paying attention to. Here's the latest injury and team news ahead of the match on Saturday, March 30.

Aston Villa team news

Boubacar Kamara, Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings are out for the remainder of the campaign. All three players have suffered knee injuries that required surgery and all of which are on different stages of their recovery.

Kamara sustained his injury against Man United in February. He went under the knife and his operation meant that he was ruled out of EURO 2024. The 24-year-old is being tipped to return in October.

Tyrone Mings posted a video documenting his recovery earlier this week. An injury to his right knee has meant that he is now needing to improve the strength of the leg to get it at the sam level as his left.

Emi Buendia returned to the grass at Bodymoor Heath last week. The Argentine international like Mings isn’t expected to play any part in the 2023/24 campaign.

Jacob Ramsey's status for the match is doubtful. A foot injury forced him to miss Villa's last four matches including their Europa Conference League clashes with Ajax. The international break could serve as an opportunity for him to recover though.

Villa's stand-in captain John McGinn will miss out through suspension. He was sent off in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, and won't come back until the game against Brentford, thus also missing their trip to the Etihad to face champions Man City on April 3.

Out: Boubacar Kamara, Emi Buendia, John McGinn and Tyrone Mings. Doubtful: Jacob Ramsey.

Wolves elimination from the FA Cup was compounded by the fact that Pedro Neto is likely to miss the remainder of the campaign. Neto was sidelined for nine weeks with a hamstring injury before, and didn't play against the Sky Blues.

‘Pedro, potentially, it’s the end of the season for him,’ O’Neil said when asked on an update on the Portuguese star.

"It’s very similar to the injury he suffered on the other side. There’s a chance he comes back for the last couple (games), maybe, if it goes really well.

‘It’s similar to the last injury, which was around nine weeks, so potentially around that time frame. The rehab can go differently, so it could be quicker or slightly longer. We’ll see how it goes.’

Gary O'Neil's attacking options are limited at the moment. Hee-Chan Hwang is nursing a hamstring injury sustained in February. He is tipped to come back in mid-April. Craig Dawson, Matheus Cunha and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde meanwhile are doubtful for the short-trip across the Midlands.

Cunha suffered a hamstring injury in February, and will use the international break to get himself up to speed with his fitness. His nine goals and six assists have made him one of Wolves' leading players and a return would be a big boost.

It is hoped Dawson's groin problem won't be too much of an issue and again that the break from matches will help him recover. As for Bellegarde, there was a fear his knee injury was serious but fortunately it isn't as bad, and he should be around for the Villa game or just shortly after.

Out: Hwang hee-Chan and Pedro Neto. Doubtful: Craig Dawson, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha.
