The countdown is well and truly on for the Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon, and runners across the region will be coming to the end of their training schedules.

With race day looming, here’s all you need to know ahead of race day, including what time the race starts, which route runners will take and details on road closures around Birmingham.

When is the Great Birmingham Half Marathon 2022?

The half marathon race will coincide with the shorter 10K event.

Both races will take place on Sunday, 1 May and both are due to begin at around 9.30am.

The run is due to both start and finish on Jennens Road.

What is the route for the half marathon event?

Runners taking part in the half marathon will take in some of the most iconic Birmingham landmarks on their way around the route.

Two of these landmarks are the Bullring Shopping Centre and Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

The half marathon route follows the 10k route past Digbeth, round Calthorpe Park, before veering off through the beautiful Cannon Hill Park.

Runners then pass around the world-famous Edgbaston Cricket Ground and head South along Pershore Road, aiming for the turnaround point at Bournville with the whiff of chocolate in the air.

The half-way mark follows soon after, before runners round Selly Park and rejoin Pershore Road heading North, with music & cheering zones aplenty to keep motivation high and legs pumping.

The sight of the infamous Bullring means runners have passed mile 12 and are into the final mile, with a grandstand finish awaiting on Jennens Road.

Can I still enter the race?

Entry slots are still available for those looking to take part in the Great Birmingham Half Marathon 2022.

The cost of entering the race is £39 and this price includes many extras, including Bespoke Finishers Medal, an exclusive finishers t-shirt, pre-training advice and motivation, and access to the post event finisher village with activations and giveaways.

After the event, you’ll also (in addition to a sense of pride and maybe some bragging rights) get an official event day photo which is available to view and purchase just days after the race as well as your official result.

This should be ready shortly after you cross the finish line.

To enter the event, visit the Great Birmingham race website.

Can I run the race for charity?

You may be able to run the Great Birmingham Half Marathon for one of a range of charities.

To do this, you can agree a sponsorship amount which you will raise for your selected charity.

For the full list of charities you can raise money for, visit the official website of the event.

Will there be road closures?

To ensure the safety of runners, spectators, and everyone involved with organising the race, a number of roads will be closed throughout race day.

Jenner Road, which has both the start and finish line of the half marathon, will be closed between 4am and 7pm on Sunday, 1 May.
