Whether it’s the art and culture, diversity, music scene or just the people - there are so many reasons the people of Birmingham love their city.
The Commonwealth Games last summer helped to show the world why Brum is so brilliant, with opening and closing ceremonies celebrating the city’s history.
The city is renowned for its art, culture and music and Brummies are also proud of being such a multicultural city. Birmingham has become an exciting place to live for many in recent years.
The city is a brilliant place to live and work for youngsters and our city has the youngest population in the continent, with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of our population.
And being one of the UK’s biggets cities, it’s no surprise that many inventions that are key to our day to day life were also thought of and made in Birmingham.
So with all of this in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at what Birmingham has given to the world over the years.

5. Watt Steam Engine
The Watt steam engine design became synonymous with steam engines, and it was many years before significantly new designs began to replace the basic Watt design. Inventors James Watt and Matthew Boulton agreed to fund development of a test engine at Soho, near Birmingham.

6. Steve Winwood
He was born in Handsworth in 1948 and grew up to become one of the most influential musicians in the world. A member of the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith - with hits including Higher Love and Roll With it - Winwood became inducted into the Rock and Rol Hall of Fame in 2004. He became part of the Birmingham blues rock scene while he was a pupil at Great Barr School. Steve reportedly has a home both in the UK and Tennessee USA. | Getty Images

7. Whistles
Joseph Hudson set up J Hudson & Co in Birmingham in 1870. With his younger brother James, he designed the “Acme City” brass whistle. This became the first referee whistle used at association football matches during the 1878–79 Football Association Cup match between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield.

8. Peaky Blinders
Peaky Blinders has become one of the UK’s most popular dramas in recent years. The show is based on the infamous Peaky Blinders gang which operated in Birmingham from the 1880s until the 1910s.
