Whether it’s the art and culture, diversity, music scene or just the people - there are so many reasons the people of Birmingham love their city.
The Commonwealth Games last summer helped to show the world why Brum is so brilliant, with opening and closing ceremonies celebrating the city’s history.
The city is renowned for its art, culture and music and Brummies are also proud of being such a multicultural city. Birmingham has become an exciting place to live for many in recent years.
The city is a brilliant place to live and work for youngsters and our city has the youngest population in the continent, with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of our population.
And being one of the UK’s biggets cities, it’s no surprise that many inventions that are key to our day to day life were also thought of and made in Birmingham.
So with all of this in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at what Birmingham has given to the world over the years.

21. Crosssroads
The sitcom Crossroads revolved around a fictional motel on the outskirts of Birmingham. It was packed full of drama, and attracting up to 15 million viewers for ATV in its hey day. The sitcom aired in the 60s, 70s and 80s. | Getty

22. Postage stamp
Schoolteacher Rowland Hill created the world’s first modern postal system back in 1839. Hill worked at the Assay Office in Birmingham. As part of the new system he invented the stamp still used today Photo: Matt Cardy

23. Duran Duran
Duran Duran band members Stephen Duffy and Nick Rhodes are both from Birmingham, and John Taylor is from Solihull. They formed the legendary 80s New Wave pop band with Simon Le Bon while studying at the University of Birmingham. The band went on to produce worldwide hits such as Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf | Duran Duran
