Birmingham storm: Birmingham Airport issues Storm Eowyn flight advice for 24-hour yellow wind warning

Storm Eowyn triggers a 24-hour yellow wind warning for the entire Midlands. Passengers are advised to check with airlines for updates.

Birmingham Airport has issued travel advice for those travelling over the weekend as Storm Eowyn threatens to disrupt travel across the West Midlands and the wider UK.

An yellow weather warning for wind is in place for Birmingham and the West Midlands from midnight on Thursday for 24-hours.

The airport has said that while they anticipate that they will 'operate as normal' during the peak of the storm, they recommend passengers check ahead with their airlines before arriving for their flights.

Flights from Birmingham to Scotland and Ireland were cancelled this morning with a rare red weather warning in place for northern areas of the UK.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: "Currently, as there is a yellow Met Office wind warning for us, we anticipate that Birmingham Airport will operate as normal.

"As always, passengers should check with their airlines."

According to The Met Office, Storm Éowyn is expected to bring very strong winds and widespread disruption on Friday.

National Express update:

National Express coach services will continue to operate as normal on Friday 24 January, aside from a small number of cancelled or amended stops and services, due to the red weather warning for Storm Éowyn.

The cancelled or amended services are those that were planned to run within the red weather warning area across Scotland.

Subject to the changing weather conditions, services that are currently cancelled or amended on Friday 24th January are:

  • Service 182 Southbound

10:10 departure from Edinburgh will depart from Carlisle at 13:35. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Hamilton will not be served.

  • Service 182 Northbound

07:30 from Birmingham will operate as normal to Manchester. It will depart Manchester at 13:00 and terminate in Glasgow. Edinburgh will not be served.

  • Service 183 Northbound

07:30 from Birmingham will operate as normal to Leeds. The service is planned to depart Leeds 30 minutes later than the current timetable.

  • Service 591 Southbound

09:15 from Glasgow will depart from Newcastle at 13:30. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Berwick and Alnwick will not be served.

All other services between England and Scotland are expected to operate as scheduled and customers are advised to check www.nationalexpress.com for the latest updates before they travel.

Due to fallen trees in multiple locations on the network, the lines between Wolverhampton and Stafford and between Chester and Holyhead are blocked.

Due to damage to the overhead wires between Wolverhampton - Stafford, all lines currently blocked. Services will be diverted where possible. Where not possible, services will be cancelled.
