Birmingham weather: Schools shut after big downpours hit region with amber alert flood warning in place

Huge downpours have caused chaos across Birmingham as a 12-hour amber weather warning remains in place.
The warning is the second-highest alert level issued by The Met Office with flooding and transport delays expected.

Hide AdFloods are particularly bad in Hall Green, Bournville and Northfield. Cars have been completely submerged in flood water with buses diverting also.
West Midlands Police have warned drivers not to take on flood water in their vehicles after one driver was rescued from Hall Green floods.
Many Brummies have criticised the council on social media for not clearing the drains regularly.

Hide AdTrittiford Road remains closed on Friday morning, buses are being diverted. Traffic officers said surrounding routes such as Yardley Wood Rd may see more traffic.

Those living in Stirchley, Edgbaston and Bournville have been warned properties are expected to flood.
Another driver became submerged at Green Road ford, with firefighters working tirelessly at the scene. No one was injured and the driver was able to get to safety.
Several schools have also announced closures tomorrow after being flooded.

Hide AdThe Met Office has said the heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the night. Rain will clear on Friday morning, with brighter spells during the day.
Schools that are set to close on Friday due to flooding include:

St Laurence Church Junior School in Northfield.

The amber weather warning is in place until 6am on Friday morning, according to The Met Office.
Elsewhere, Moseley councillor Izzy Knowles shared video footage of the overflowing River Rea.
