Storm Darragh 'only travel if essential' for West Midlands and Birmingham as motorways and trains hit by wild weather

Rail bosses and police have urged residents across Birmingham and the West Midlands to only travel if essential - with falling trees closing motorway lanes and train lines being suspended until the end of the day.
West Midlands Railway has suspended some of its services to the end of the day as Storm Darragh batters the region.
Roads across Birmingham have been closed due to fallen trees and heavy rain has battered the city causing some localised flooding.
A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: “Due to the extensive disruption caused by the storm we suggest to ONLY TRAVEL IF ESSENTIAL. Apologies for any late cancellations. Stay safe.”
Due to a tree blocking the railway between Rowley Regis and Birmingham Snow Hill the line towards Stourbridge Junction is blocked.
Other services in and out of Birmingham have been suspended due to trees falling on the line and signal faults.
At 5.42pm, the M42 Northbound between J5 (Solihull) and J6 (Birmingham Airport) was shut due to fallen trees in lane 1, 2, and 3 (of 4).
Flood alerts have also been issued for the entire West Midlands.
Staffordshire Police urged people to report falling trees to their local council and to only travel if essential.
A weather warning remains in place for wind and rain for the region until 6pm on Sunday.
