Ward End: woman dies following suspected hit-and-run in Washwood Heath Road

A woman has died following a suspected hit-and-run collision in Washwood Heath Road in Ward End yesterday (5 April).
The woman was hit near the junction of Mickleover Road at just before 4.40pm.

Hide AdIt is believed the woman was crossing the road near the junction of Mickleover Road when she was hit by a white car.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene but sadly died from her injuries.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
A statement from the West Midland Ambulance Service released this morning, read: “West Midlands Ambulance Service received several 999 calls reporting an RTC involving a car and a pedestrian on Washwood Heath Road, Ward End, at around 4.40pm.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the West Midlands CARE team medics and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.
“When ambulance crews arrived, they found the pedestrian, a woman, in a critical condition and immediately commenced advanced trauma care working as a team to provide the best care possible.


“Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.”
Inspector Steve Radford of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this awful time.

“We’d also ask drivers who have dashcam or property owners with CCTV footage from around the time of the incident to get in touch.
