Why the Bullring was evacuated on Tuesday

The Bullring was evacuated after a man suffered "serious injuries" near to a Selfridges store.

Emergency services scrambled to Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre at around 2.40pm this afternoon (Tue).

West Midlands Ambulance Service said critical care paramedics attended the scene while police cordoned off the area outside several shops.

Medical staff discovered a male victim with serious injuries who has since been rushed to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

The nature of his injuries is not currently known. The shopping centre reopened at around 7pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received numerous 999 calls to the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham at 2.38pm.

"An ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

"An off duty paramedic was also on scene. When crews arrived they found a man being cared for by Bullring staff who had sustained serious injuries.

"He was given trauma care by the team of ambulance staff before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham."
