Two men have been arrested as part of an investigation into courier theft, with victims losing more than £100,000.
West Midlands Police said that the two men had been arrested in the Stechford and Yardley areas of Birmingham, saying that nine people had been targeted since April.
The force said victims had seen convinced that their bank accounts were at risk of fraud and had left their cards for the men, who were posing as police officers, to collect.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We've arrested two men as part of an investigation into courier fraud, where criminals have targeted elderly and vulnerable people in Birmingham.
“The men, aged 40 and 35, were held by our Economic Crime Unit (ECU) in the Stechford and Yardley areas on suspicion of fraud.
“Since April this year, nine victims in the Birmingham area have been targeted by people posing as police officers.
“They convince the victims that their bank accounts are at risk of fraud, and that they need to leave their cards in an envelope outside for the 'police' to collect as part of the investigation.
“The bank cards are then used to make cash withdrawals, with the amount stolen so far in excess of £100,000.”
